Gonzaga Woodfiring with CAGNI

Our group was invited to participate in the woodkiln firing north of Spokane on March 23, 2006.
Participants were required to spend two hours helping fire the kiln.
After slowly bringing the kiln to red heat, logs were fed frequently so that the flames were generally 2-4 feet above the top of the chimney.


A mirror was set on the hillside so the chimney could be watched from the sheltered stoking area.  It was rainy and cool for most of the firing...

 Gina Freuen (pictured) stoked the kiln through the night, and Terry Gieber and Tammy Pruitt were in charge during other times.  As much wood was burned in 15 minutes as would heat an average house for a day...
